Effective research requires competent faculty advisers and high quality research facilities, both of which are found in the various laboratories of the Electrical Engineering Department, and the Center for Integrated Systems. The Department of Electrical Engineering is organized into five laboratories: In addition to the laboratories there are interdisciplinary centers that bring together faculty from different laboratories and departments. The Department seeks to provide an optimum environment for research and scholarly efforts of faculty and students. Approximately 40 million is spent each year on research in the Department's laboratory programs. Most of this research is sponsored by outside agencies and private corporations, leading to frequent interactions between industry, government and the University.
