The Mechanics
- Profs are asking the question "Would I want to work with this person
for 5 years?"
- timid < YOU < arrogant
- Be neither obsequious nor haughty
- Be polite
- Be confident, especially at the beginning
- Do NOT argue with the Profs. It wastes time
- Smile!
- Maximize your partial credit. Usually 54% is good enough to pass.
- Understand the selection procedures well.
- Stop "studying" one week ahead.
- Stop "practicing" one day ahead.
- Don't listen to loud music.
- Don't play video games/watch TV.
- No drugs/alcohol.
- High carbs/low fat.
- Don't plan too many other things near the quals.
- Don't take too many courses.
- Go home during winter break.
