Some classes have a reputation as good Quals prep (e.g. EE141, EE216, EE261, EE278) classes, however, your mileage may vary. If nothing else, taking a class from a potential examiner gives you some insight into the types of questions he/she may ask. Some students take a class just to prepare for the Quals, others think that this is a waste of time - you'll have to decide for yourself what makes the most sense.
Two major resources we have not listed: (1) Previous years' Quals Questions and (2) Other Students. You will find old Quals questions to be an invaluable resource in your preparation - they give you insight into the type of questions you can expect to see. You can usually obtain the previous year's questions from the EE dept. Older years' questions are floating around and can be obtained by asking students in your labs or classes who have taken the Quals already. Other students are also a source of valuable advice concerning both preparation strategies and more specific information about each examiner. While we have tried to summarize some of that advice in this guide, there is nothing like talking to another student to get a feel for what the Quals are about.
