Jelena Vuckovic - a brief bio

Jelena Vuckovic was born in Nis, Serbia, and was educated at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering of the University of Nis, Serbia (Diploma in Engineering, 1994) and California Institute of Technology - Caltech  (MSc and PhD in Electrical Engineering in 1997 and 2002, respectively). After graduating from Caltech, she spent a year (2002) working as a postdoctoral scholar in Applied Physics at Stanford University. In 2003, she joined the faculty in the Electrical Engineering Department and Ginzton Laboratory at Stanford, where she is currently an Associate Professor and a Chambers Faculty Scholar. She leads the Nanoscale and Quantum Photonics research group and her research focuses on experimental nanophotonics and quantum photonics, including photonic crystals and solid-state photonic quantum information systems. 

Vuckovic has published more than 80 journal publications (cited more than 3400 times),  seven book chapters, seven issued and several pending U.S. patents, and has given more than 100 invited talks. She is also a recipient of several awards, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) - the highest honor for young scientists and engineers in the USA, the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award, the DARPA Young Faculty Award, and the Frederic E. Terman Fellowship given to the most promising young faculty in sciences and engineering at Stanford.
